Rain chances across Indiana for Election Day Tuesday | Live Doppler 13 Weather Blog

A front is slowly approaching Indiana and will bring some rain as polls close across the state. Windy weather is also expected.

INDIANA, USA — The central U.S. is stuck in a cloudy and rainy pattern the next few days, including Indiana on Election Day Tuesday. Western and northern Indiana will get much more rain than eastern and southern Indiana. The highest chance for rain will be in the evening as Hoosiers cast their last minute votes before polls close.

Indiana will definitely not be the rainiest state, however scattered showers will skim the state at times now through Wednesday.

Whether or not you get much rain, expect windy conditions throughout the day. Gusts will top over 30 MPH out of the south.

Election Day Weather Forecast (Nov. 5)

It will not rain all day Tuesday. In fact much of the day looks dry. But there are mainly two periods of rain to cover.

  • Scattered morning showers hit-or-miss across the state
  • Late evening rain, mainly after dark coming in from the west.

Highs on Tuesday will reach into the 70s with south winds sustained near 20MPH, gusts topping above 30MPH.

Rain zones Tuesday

Tuesday morning 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Rain in the morning will be light and scattered. Not everyone will get some rain, but don't be surprised to see a shower at times in the morning. It will be hit-or-miss. Rainfall amounts will be minimal, if you get some of the rain.

Tuesday afternoon 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Much of the middle part of the day and afternoon may be dry. In fact you may see some sunshine at times, especially south and east of Indianapolis. This should be a drier time period as rain gathers across Illinois and then starts to push east toward Indiana later in the evening.

Tuesday evening 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

A widespread round of rain is likely to start pushing into Indiana near and after sunset. Western and northern Indiana may get some rain near the end of voting while eastern and southern Indiana may stay dry.

Later in the night expect the rain to move in across the rest of the state.

As polls close, rain chances will go up. Expect a wet Tuesday evening and night as rain slowly pushes east across the state.

Temperatures on Tuesday

We will likely reach the low and mid 70s across much of Indiana on Election Day. That won't break a record but Indianapolis will likely reach into the top 10 for warmest Election Days on record.

The wind will be a big factor for this. Gusts out of the south will reach over 30 MPH at times. It will be breezy waiting in voting lines across the state.

Rain Ending

Once this late evening and night round of rain pushes through, this will be the final round. There may still be scattered rain on Wednesday morning. You can probably expect some wet roads and sidewalks in the morning.

Then expect the sun to eventually come out.
