INDIANAPOLIS — A $1.3 million roundabout project at a north Indianapolis intersection is now one major step closer to being complete.

The Indianapolis Department of Public Works announced Thursday that the new roundabout at the intersection of East 79th Street and Dean Road, near the Allisonville neighborhood, is now open for vehicular use.

"This project milestone marks an important achievement in our ongoing efforts to improve traffic flow and safety in the area," Indy DPW said in a social media post.

The department said that final construction elements remain ongoing, and "plans are in place to minimize the impact to traffic."

The project includes a single-lane roundabout with "pedestrian features" and an underground stormwater detention system, which is intended to reduce the risk of flooding.

Indy DPW previously stated the entire project was expected to be completed in the summer of 2025.
