INDIANAPOLIS — Work is beginning this week on a new $1.3 million roundabout project at a north Indianapolis intersection.
The project at the intersection of East 79th Street and Dean Road, near the Allisonville neighborhood, includes a single-lane roundabout with "pedestrian features" and an underground stormwater detention system, Indy DPW said.
"Investing in our infrastructure is crucial for enhancing safety and improving traffic flow,” Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett said in a statement. “The new roundabout at 79th Street and Dean Road will streamline transportation in a neighborhood that historically has heavy traffic during peak hours.”
A statement from Indy DPW said the roundabout is designed to "improve traffic efficiency and reduce congestion" at the intersection. The underground detention system is intended to reduce the risk of flooding.
The roundabout is expected to be completed in the summer of 2025.
