KENTLAND, Indiana — Police are investigating after two people were killed in a crash in northwest Indiana Tuesday morning.

The crash was reported around 11:30 a.m. Aug. 13 at County Road 50 East and Country Road 1550 South in the town of Kentland. That's roughly 40 miles northwest of Lafayette, near the Illinois state line.

The Newton County sheriff said a preliminary investigation indicated a Ford passenger vehicle driven by 73-year-old Wayne Heminger, of Goodland, Indiana, was going west on County Road 1550 South when it failed to yield to a southbound semi driven by 21-year-old Blaine Tonner, of Hartford City.

After the crash, the semi went off the road and overturned, leading to a fire.
