HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind — A 48-year-old man died in a crash Monday morning in Hancock County.

Hancock County sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a crash around 8 a.m. Aug. 12 at the intersection of U.S. 40 and County Road 800 East.

The crash involved an SUV and a dump truck. The Hancock County Sheriff's Office confirmed the driver of the SUV, 48-year-old Matthew Fisher, of Markleville, Indiana, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff's office said both vehicles were going eastbound on U.S. 40, approaching the crossover intersection at County Road 800 East, when the SUV ran into the back of the dump truck as it was about to turn left.

The crash caused the dump truck to flip onto its passenger side, and the SUV had heavy front-end damage.

Witnesses said the dump truck had its turn signal activated prior to the crash.

The driver of the dump truck, identified as a 48-year-old man from Daleville, is cooperating with the investigation.

Witnesses said the sunrise was very bright, which may have played a role in the crash since eastbound traffic was heading into the sunrise.

The Hancock County Sheriff's Office is reminding drivers to stay vigilant and allow proper spacing, especially at sunrise and sunset when the glare reduces visibility.
