MUNCIE, Ind. — A Muncie father and son were arrested in the attempted murder of a woman.
The incident happened on Jan. 2 in the 2500 block of North Elgin Street.
Witnesses called police after seeing a man firing at a woman's car.
Police located a man that matched the description of the shooter and said he had a semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine.
Police also located the woman, who had been shot multiple times, and she was rushed to the hospital.
In surveillance video from an apartment complex, the woman can be seen pulling up and parking. A moment later, a man comes into view and opening fire at the woman's car. Her driver side window can be seen being shot out as she drives away. The man then runs from the area.
When police interviewed the shooter, he allegedly claimed the woman had shot at his grandfather's home earlier in the day. He said she then came back later and shot at the home again.
The man allegedly said he grabbed his father's rifle, and then he and his father jumped in a car and his father drove to the woman's apartment. The man said when they got to the woman's apartment complex, he "got scared" and shot at her. He allegedly said he fired 10 shots. Crime scene investigators recovered 31 rifle rounds.
Police said they could not see from the video that the woman ever returned fire and said it appeared to be an "ambush-style assault."
Investigators also interviewed the alleged shooter's father, who admitted driving his son to the woman's apartment. Investigators claim the father told them his son said, "Imma take care of this now" and then got out with the rifle. The father was also arrested for attempted murder by giving his son access to the rifle and then driving him.
