INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana State Police is partnering with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance for a human trafficking awareness initiative.
From Jan. 8-12, troopers will be helping raise awareness by distributing outreach materials to commercial motor vehicle drivers.
The idea is that commercial drivers are in a unique position to possibly identify human trafficking as they travel around the country.
According to the United Nations, men, women, and children of all ages and from all backgrounds can become victims. Human traffickers can use violence, fraudulent employment agencies, and fake promises of education and job opportunities to trick and coerce their victims, according to the release.
The organizations also collaborate with Truckers Against Trafficking.
If you suspect someone might be involved in human trafficking or a victim of human trafficking, report it to law enforcement.
