INDIANAPOLIS — An arrest warrant has been issued for an Indianapolis woman charged with stealing $20,000 worth of iPhones after they were delivered by FedEx.
Darlin Garcia Medina, 27, is charged with one felony count of theft wherein the value of the property stolen is between $750 & $50,000.
Court records include a link to home security video that allegedly shows Garcia Medina getting out of her blue BMW and stealing a package off the porch of a home in Morgan County on March 15.
In the video, a FedEx driver is seen dropping off a package at a home and driving away when a blue BMW drives up to the home. A person, identified as Garcia Medina, gets out of the car, takes the packages and then gets back into the car before it drives away.
The home security video helped police identify Garcia Medina as the suspect in other porch pirate phone thefts in Indianapolis.
Security video surveillance also allegedly shows this same car visit this FedEx shipping center on the west side of Indianapolis early this year.
FedEx says the woman came to the shipping center on Jan. 10 to ship a package overnight to Miami. While a worker was preparing the package, the bottom of the box fell out, dropping 20 cellphones to the ground. FedEx says all those phones were stolen while being shipped through FedEx.
According to FedEx, the box included factory new electronics valued at almost $21,000, including five iPhone 15 Pro Max models valued at almost $1,200 each.
Court records say Garcia Medina is the listed customer, and her credit card paid to ship the stolen phones.
She is also the registered owner of the blue BMW, which 13News found parked at an apartment complex on the west side Thursday. No one answered the door at her address, but she did answer the phone.
In a phone conversation with 13News, Garcia Medina said she was not aware of the theft charge and claimed she was out of the country when this video was captured.
FedEx released the following statement to 13News regarding the incident:
“FedEx does not tolerate the use of its network for illegal activity. We cooperated fully with law enforcement and are thankful for the quick actions by our team member.”
