INDIANAPOLIS — A man is facing charges after allegedly leading police on a chase in a stolen FedEx truck from downtown Indianapolis to the city's east side.

A FedEx driver was making a delivery near Vermont Street and College Avenue on Thursday, Aug. 1, when he saw his truck take off down College Avenue. Approximately 45 minutes later, an IMPD detective in an unmarked car saw the stolen FedEx truck speeding near 30th Street and Arlington Avenue on the east side of Indianapolis.

Several marked police cars pulled in behind the truck as it continued driving.

According to court documents, the driver pulled into a yard near 21st Street and Arlington Avenue and jumped out of the truck while it was still moving.

The truck rolled into a tree when the driver took off running. A woman was in the passenger seat, and she also jumped out of the truck and tried to run from police, but was caught quickly.

She was arrested on an outstanding warrant. The man, 36-year-old Joshua Taylor, threw down a bag, and then the keys to the FedEx truck as he ran.

According to court documents, he was near his apartment when he was captured. He is now charged with auto theft with a prior conviction and criminal mischief.

Police said the couple disabled the truck's GPS system and its onboard surveillance cameras after stealing it, and several boxes in the truck had been torn open. The FedEx driver's wallet was found in the truck, but his phone is still missing.

The FedEx truck is valued at $15,000.
