INDIANAPOLIS โ Two men are in custody after an armed carjacking on Washington Street at Lasalle Street, just east of Purdue Polytechnic High School.
The carjacking happened just after midnight Sunday, July 28. The owner of the car said he gave a ride to two men. When they arrived at the destination, the driver said one of the men punched him in the face. Then, the other passenger hit him in the head with a gun, before pointing it at him and telling him to get out of the car.
The man got out of the car, and the two carjackers took off in the car.
Thirty minutes later, IMPD officers at a different crime scene saw the car go speeding by.
When an officer tried to pull the stolen car over, the driver didn't stop, according to IMPD. After a short chase, two men got out of the car and ran, but police caught up with them.
Police arrested 23-year-old Kyle Castner and 29-year-old David Sneed, both from Indianapolis.
According to IMPD, there were two guns inside the car that matched the ones used in the carjacking. Both men are convicted violent felons, who cannot legally own guns in Indiana.
Police said they also found drugs inside the car.
Both Castner and Sneed were already wanted on felony warrants in Marion County.
Prosecutors formally charged Castner and Sneed with armed robbery, possession of cocaine, resisting law enforcement and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. Castner is also facing a charge of pointing a firearm at another person.
