14-year-old arrested for alleged role in armed carjacking on Indy's southeast side

The teen was arrested for robbery and reckless driving.

INDIANAPOLIS — A 14-year-old was arrested for his alleged role in an armed carjacking Monday afternoon on the southeast side of Indianapolis.

On Monday, June 24 at 2:30 p.m., IMPD said officers were dispatched to a report of an armed carjacking in the 7700 block of Sebastian Place, near Troy Avenue and Fisher Road.

When officers arrived, they discovered that the victim's cellphone, money and vehicle had been taken at gunpoint by two people wearing masks.

Around 6 p.m. that evening, IMPD said they found the stolen vehicle in the 7700 block of Blue Willow Drive, approximately two miles north from where it was stolen, with the "possible suspect" in the vehicle.

Once the suspect saw the police, he allegedly drove away, stopped in a cornfield just south of East Raymond Street and fled on foot.

IMPD said officers chased the suspect and ended up finding him hiding in a garage.

According to IMPD, officers found the victim's cellphone and money on the suspect.

The teen was arrested for robbery and reckless driving.

“I would ask that parents and community guardians be curious about what their young people are doing," IMPD Deputy Chief Tanya Terry said. "Juveniles engaging in reckless and unlawful behavior will not be tolerated.”

The second suspect wasn't in the vehicle. IMPD is still searching for them.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Detective Wanda Perry at Wanda.Perry@indy.gov or the IMPD Robbery Office at 317-327-3475 or call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
