INDIANAPOLIS — A 38-year-old man was arrested after allegedly pointing a rifle at a child who accidently kicked his son during a soccer game on the near west side of Indianapolis.

Around 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, an IMPD officer was dispatched to the 400 block of Haugh Street, near Max Bahr Park, for a disturbance involving a person with a rifle.

Upon arrival, court documents say the officer was directed to a man who was allegedly pointing a rifle at the crowd.

When the officer arrived, documents say the suspect was standing next to a gold Chevy Malibu with one of the back doors open. The officer approached the vehicle and allegedly found a loaded rifle on the seat. The officer seized the rifle and put it in the trunk of his vehicle.

Court documents say the officer pointed his duty rifle at the suspect and eventually placed him in handcuffs.

According to court documents, the officer spoke to a witness who told the officer the incident started because the suspect's son was accidently kicked while playing soccer.

Court documents say the suspect shouted to the child that kicked his son, "you're too old to be playing here," and "you're going to pay."

The suspect then allegedly went to his vehicle, grabbed his rifle and started yelling at the crowd, as well as the players on the field. Court documents say the suspect also pointed his rifle at the child and the crowd.

The suspect was arrested on preliminary charges of intimidation with a deadly weapon, criminal recklessness and an outstanding warrant.
