What to expect for weather at IMS for the Brickyard 400 | July 21, 2024

Clouds will thicken up at times on Sunday ahead of more rain chances next week. However as they get thicker, a very limited number of Hoosiers could get a raindrop.

INDIANA, USA — It's been a nice weekend so far and we are expecting the comfortable weather to continue to all of Sunday for the Brickyard 400 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. However there is a quick catch. A small 10% chance of a rain shower is possible. Let's break it down.

(Note:  Hour-by-hour forecast below)

As have a more unsettled weather pattern on the way for next week with scattered storm chances on-and-off. Sunday is a transitional day. More clouds are likely to settled in, especially high clouds, and in a few places the clouds may be thick enough to drop a couple rain drops.

How may get a stray rain shower Sunday?

A spotty shower is possible from 8 a.m. through 5 p.m. The vast majority of that time will be dry. However every once in a while a shower will pop up near the Illinois-Indiana state line and bring raindrops to areas near or south of I-70.

Our rain zones show where the highest likelihood of rain will be. You can see the chance is already very low in the first place across Indiana. It's down to a 20% chance.

The speedway is right on the edge of the rain zone. Our 13News Weather team is putting out a 10% chance for IMS. That is super low, but not zero.

The highest chance will actually be in the mid and late morning hours. A spotty shower could hit your windshield on the way to IMS and on your way past the entrance gates. Once again, there is a good chance the spotty shower or two completely misses IMS.
