INDIANAPOLIS — Starting Friday, July 12, I-465 will close again for another project.
The section between I-65 and I-70 on the city's east and southeast sides was already closed a month ago for patchwork on the southbound lanes. This time, INDOT will focus on the northbound lanes.
While this project impacts thousands of drivers, it also impacts the businesses along the stretch.
For Royal Pin Expo, all of its locations are along the route. During the summer, you can expect to see every lane full, but this closure could change that.
"When they close down both sides — that gets to be a stretch — and you'll have to go around town to get to us," manager Casey Williams said.
During the first closure, Williams said they had customers struggle to find them.
"It was really tough on them. It gets confusing and hard for everyone," Williams said.
The official detour during the closure is I-65 northbound to I-70. INDOT officials hope drivers can use the detour easily.
"We received a lot of feedback on the opening of the southbound lanes. We really appreciate everyone's patience," INDOT's Kyleigh Cramer said. "I think a lot of people see the hard work pay off."
This project is part two of six to completely restore I-465.
INDOT said the project should be completed by Aug. 5.
