USA Swimming president discusses possibility of Indianapolis hosting 2028 Olympic Swim Trials

PARIS, France — So far, USA Swimming has won 28 medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics — and there could be more, with three Americans competing in the open water swimming events.

The U.S. also leads in gold medals in swimming events, with eight.

And the biggest question for Hoosiers is whether the 2028 Olympic Swimming Trials will return to Indianapolis after the successful run in June.

"I'll be honest, I think everyone – even the World Aquatics people – told me, 'That is the greatest swimming event they've ever seen,'" Hinchey said of this summer's trials in Indianapolis.

The next Summer Olympics will take place in Los Angeles, so the push to host the swimming trials again is paramount for Indiana leaders.

"We are so grateful to everyone in Indianapolis – the city, the community, the governor, the mayor, Indiana Sports Corp, OneAmerica, Scott Davidson – these are our greatest friends to our sport right now in our country, so it's hard not to think ahead," Hinchey said. "We're already having those conversations. We're hosting a couple of those executives here in Paris, so we'll keep working on it, but we certainly appreciate what happened this year."
