No. 6 Center Grove uses strong start to defeat No. 10 Ben Davis 42-19

Center Grove and Ben Davis met Friday night in a Class 6A showdown on Operation Football.

INDIANAPOLIS — The reigning Class 6A state champions Ben Davis Giants dropped their third game of the season to the sixth-ranked Center Grove Trojans on Friday.

From the get-go, the Trojans appeared to be in complete control of the game. The opening kickoff was returned 80 yards for a touchdown by Brevin Holubar to set the tone for the rest of the game.

Gabe McWilliams found Tristan Baxter for a 10-yard touchdown pass to make it 14-0 Trojans midway through the first quarter. McWilliams then found Drake McClurg for an incredible 61-yard touchdown pass to put Center Grove up 21-0 in the blink of an eye.

With just seconds remaining in the first quarter, Ben Davis finally answered with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Joe Goss to Ope Gbadegesin.

In the second quarter, Center Grove started to get their ground game going with a 5-yard rushing touchdown by Austin Hennessy. The two teams traded possessions until just before halftime, when Joe Goss tossed a 22-yard touchdown pass to make it 28-13 in favor of Center Grove at the end of two.

A relatively quiet third quarter by comparison saw Ben Davis score for the final time of the night when Goss found Anthony Stapleton Jr. for a 5-yard touchdown pass. Once the Trojans took possession back, Austin Hennessy broke through for a big run to set up a 1-yard touchdown run by Austin Dibbern to push the score to 35-19.
