SPEEDWAY, Ind — The Speedway Fire Department rescued a woman from Eagle Creek near Lynhurst Drive Thursday morning.

They were called out just after 7:20 a.m. to the area of the bridge near Lynhurst and West 10th Street.

A woman reported that she and a companion were wading near the bank of the creek near the Lynhurst bridge when her companion was swept downstream by the creek's current.

After several minutes, rescuers found the 32-year-old woman clinging to tree limbs approximately 100 yards east of the bridge, and were able to pull her out of the creek.

She was alert and spoke to rescuers before she was taken to Eskenazi Hospital for treatment.

The woman had lost her clothing when she was swept over a dam, and was experiencing hypothermia, according a Speedway Fire spokesman.

She had been in the water for approximately 25 minutes.
