Shelbyville police asking for public's help in arson investigation

The fire was reported around 7 a.m. Wednesday at the corner of West Franklin and South Tompkins streets.

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. — Police in Shelbyville are asking for the public's help in an arson investigation after a house fire Wednesday morning.

Around 7 a.m. July 24, Shelbyville Fire Department crews were called to the fire at the corner of West Franklin and South Tompkins streets. Responding crews found heavy smoke and were told of possible people trapped inside, but two residents were able to make it out before they arrived.

The two residents were checked out by medics at the scene and released, the Shelbyville Fire Department said in a social media post.

The fire was knocked down with no injuries reported.

The Shelbyville Police Department said Wednesday it was conducting an arson investigation along with the Indiana State Fire Marshal's Office, and a reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to the conviction of the person(s) responsible for the fire.
