Police wives make 1,800 'thank you' bags for IMPD officers

The group put together "thank you" bags for all 1,800 IMPD officers.

INDIANAPOLIS — Local police wives came together Sunday for "Operation Morale Boost" as a way to thank officers in the community.

The group put together "thank you" bags for all 1,800 IMPD officers.

The newly formed group, Blue Bond, works with the National Police Wives Association.

The bags were filled with food, candy and snacks, and included a personal 'thank you' note from people who donated.

The donations came from across the country through an Amazon registry.

Volunteers, many related or married to an officer, said these last few months have been difficult for their families.

"It is a little hard being silent right now, and this is kind of a really easy way for us to speak up without yelling and without putting our safety at risk,” said Cherilyn Eby, chairperson for Blue Bond.

Once the 18,000 bags are full, they are going to use the rest of the donations to fill other bags for more divisions and departments.

They are looking to do more events for other smaller departments.
