JACKSON COUNTY, Ind. — A five-vehicle crash northeast of Brownstown claimed the life of a Seymour man and left several others injured.
It happened just after 1 p.m. Friday on U.S 50 near County Road 260 East.
The initial state police investigation said a pickup truck driven by Herschel Williams, 81, was going east on the highway when his vehicle crossed the center line. The truck collided with an SUV and a pickup truck.
Another SUV struck a guardrail while trying to avoid the crash and a pickup truck was damaged by debris in the road.
Williams was taken to a hospital but died a short time later.
Five others were treated for injures at area hospitals.
An investigation by Indiana State Police is ongoing. ISP said alcohol and drugs are not suspected to have been factors in the crash.
