INDIANAPOLIS — In the world of welding, 25-year-old Sage Moreno fits right in.
"Being able to push ourselves to do things that men are mostly known to do is very powerful," Moreno said.
Moreno is among countless others working on a massive project for the Latinas Welding Guild.
"For Consuelo to have created a company primarily focused on getting women who are Latina welders, it gives me chills," Moreno said.
Consuelo Lockhart is the founder and executive director of the guild.
"It's kind of a crazy time, it's still very surreal," Lockhart said.
It's surreal because they are nearing the finish line of creating a 14,000-pound steel replica of the Eiffel Tower just in time for the U.S. Olympic Swim Trials in downtown Indianapolis.
Five sections are being created, standing about one-sixteenth of the actual size of the Paris landmark. Then, everything will be painted gold and transported downtown and positioned near Georgia Street and Capitol Avenue near Lucas Oil Stadium.
"It'll get assembled, so there will be cranes that are lifting and putting the sections together," Lockhart said.

She said the top half has already been built.
"We've been able to contract outside welders who probably would have never been able to be a part of a project like this, so for us to have Latinas, Latinos, women in project leadership around, this has been a great experience," Lockhart said. "It's just truly amazing to think about a larger scale than what we're even doing."
The construction of the project is inspiring Hoosiers and inspiring a community.
"To know that I am building something with my community, it's awesome," Moreno said.
