INDIANAPOLIS — Police took three people into custody Tuesday after a pursuit and the discovery of counterfeit currency and a handgun.
It began around Legrande Avenue and Dawson Street when a state trooper tried to stop an SUV for an alleged traffic violation. State police said the vehicle refused to stop, speeding away and leading officers on a pursuit.
During the chase, police allege a handgun and counterfeit U.S. currency were thrown from the vehicle. Officers recovered the items. The handgun was determined to have been reported stolen.
The pursuit ended in the 800 block of South Oakland Street, where the car crashed into a fence. Police said the driver fled on foot, but two people, 18-year-old Alexis Hernandez and a juvenile, 16, remained in the car and were held by officers. Police chased the suspect on foot but he initially eluded officers.
When police were told the man might have entered a home on South Oakland Street, SWAT was called and officers were posted in the area to assist in the search. Police believe the suspect ran from the home before officers could secure the perimeter around the area.
Early Tuesday evening, officers located the person they say was the driver of the car, Victor White, 19, Indianapolis.
The two adults were taken to the Marion County Jail and the 16 year old was referred to juvenile authorities.
No injuries were reported.
Troopers will present their investigation to the prosecutor's office who will make a determination about charges.
