INDIANAPOLIS — It’s going to be a busy holiday weekend across Indianapolis, which means IMPD will be busy too — beefing up patrols to make sure everyone stays safe.
“IMPD will be out patrolling like any other holiday. Officers are continuing to work and forgoing their time off to ensure that the city stays safe,” IMPD Ofc. Tommy Thompson said.
The last holiday weekend of the summer comes right after a violent stretch in the Circle City, with 10 people killed in just 10 days.
IMPD reminds everyone to be alert, saying if you see something unusual, call officers.
“We ask if you see something, say something. Contact the police if you have any suspicion of criminal activity,” Thompson said. “Those open eyes and ears are very important to us, and we rely on our community.”
IMPD stresses that people work to resolve their conflicts without guns.
“That’s what we want to community to remember is just please, please don’t resort to any gun violence,” Thompson said.
It will also be a busy weekend on the roads. IMPD and state police will be monitoring traffic. They also remind everyone to have a safe ride home — whether that’s a sober driver or rideshare service.
“Make sure you have a designated driver if you are partaking in adult beverages and enjoying this nice beautiful weather we are having,” Thompson said.
