INDIANAPOLIS — The coronavirus kept people away, but organizers still held a fundraiser Saturday evening in support of officer Breann Leath’s son.
The Minority Police officer’s association held the fundraiser online to allow people to donate toward a trust fund for Leath’s son, Zayn.
“When the incident happened with Bre, I instantly thought of Zayn. As a mother I thought what can we do to wrap our arms around him to let him know that he is loved and is going to be protected and we have his back,” said IMPD Major Ida Williams.
Zayn and his father came, who says he appreciates all of the support they have received from the community.
“We’re grateful that we are surrounded by a bunch of friends and family that loved Bre and love him just as much as they loved her,” Zeb Bartolome said.
Officer Leath died April 9 when she was responding to a domestic violence call. 27-year-old Elliahs Dorsey was charged with murder in the shooting death of Leath.
Leath, 24, was a mother, a military veteran and a well-respected IMPD officer.
