1 adult, 1 juvenile hospitalized after crash during police chase on Indy's east side

The crash happened shortly after 4 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of East 34th Street and North Riley Avenue, just west of Emerson Avenue.

INDIANAPOLIS — Two people were taken to the hospital after a police chase ended in a crash and car fire on Indianapolis' east side early Wednesday morning.

IMPD said officers were trying to stop a suspicious vehicle for reckless driving around 4:15 a.m. July 24.

The vehicle drove away and officers engaged in a "very short pursuit." IMPD said the pursuit ended when the vehicle hit a pole near the intersection of East 34th Street and North Riley Avenue, just west of Emerson Avenue, and caught fire.

Yury Layva lives right where the crash happened and heard it while playing video games.

"Heard a big boom and said, 'There is no way someone is robbing me, man,'" Layva said. "I run upstairs and I just hear the police, cars on fire. It's crazy."
