1 killed, 8 wounded in violent 12 hours across Indianapolis

Six of the shootings were reported within three hours Friday night.

INDIANAPOLIS — Nine people were shot, one fatally, in several shootings across Indianapolis Friday night and Saturday morning.

According to IMPD, the first shooting happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. Sept. 13 in the 8000 block of Egret Lane, which is in an apartment complex near West 79th Street and Harcourt Road on the city's north side. Police said the condition of that victim is "stable."

About 15 minutes later, police received a report of a person shot in the 3300 block of East Washington Street, near North Rural Street on the city's near east side. An adult female was found shot at that location and was taken to the hospital, with her condition described as "stable."

Around 9 p.m., a person was reported shot in the 2800 block of Black Knight Boulevard, near East 30th Street and North Post Road on the city's east side. The victim at that scene refused transport to the hospital, police said.

The fourth shooting of the night was the most serious in terms of injury. Investigators say the occupants of two vehicles were engaged in a gun battle around 9:30 p.m. in the 3900 block of North Sherman Drive, near 38th Street on the city's northeast side. One person, an adult male, was critically wounded in the shooting. One of the cars involved in the incident then crashed into the vehicle of a woman pulling out of a residential area, injuring her. That woman was taken to the hospital in "stable" condition, police said.

Around the same time, a shooting in the 7100 block of Warrior Trail, near West 71st Street and Harcourt Road on the city's north side, wounded a juvenile. Police tell 13News the male victim came to the location to meet a girl, when shots were fired.  The victim was taken to St. Vincent Hospital in "stable" condition. Police said there are no witnesses in the case at this time.

Around 10:30 p.m., IMPD reported two people arrived at IU Methodist Hospital on the city's near north side with apparent gunshot wounds. The condition of both victims was also described as "stable."

Around 12:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, police reported another gunshot victim who arrived at an area hospital, when a victim arrived at Community Hospital North on the city's northeast side. That person's condition was also said to be "stable."

And a man was killed in a shooting shortly after 6 a.m. Saturday in the 3800 block of East Washington Street, near North Sherman Drive. Police arrived and found a man with gunshot wounds in an alleyway behind the AutoZone. Medics pronounced the victim dead at the scene. IMPD confirmed officers detained a "person of interest."

"This violence we've seen in the last 12 hours, 24 hours is outrageous for us to see," IMPD Officer Drew Brown said. "For our community members and our neighbors to look around and see these types of things happening, for our officers and detectives who are working hard responding to these types of things, it can be heartbreaking."
