Investigation leads to Richmond man's arrest on child pornography charge

Detectives say James Brooks admitted to intentionally touching women in public. More charges could follow.

RICHMOND, Ind. — A Richmond man was arrested at his business Friday morning as the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office found evidence of child pornography on a computer that was seized on a search warrant.

James Brooks, 53 was arrested at Brooks Trucking on North US 27 in Richmond. 

Police seized computer equipment and mobile phones as part of a month long investigation of Brooks after he was discovered by a Wayne County Deputy at Middlefork Reservoir under suspicious circumstances. 

Brooks was jailed in Wayne County on a preliminary charge of Possession of Child Pornography - a Level 5 Felony.

When Brooks was interviewed following the search, he provided information connecting himself to the child pornography, according to a media release from Sheriff Randy Retter. He also admitted to investigators he intentionally touched adult women in public, and confessed to rubbing up against a young girl at a Richmond store.  

Additional interviews for others who may be involved are scheduled next week, and charges and or counts may follow as the investigation progresses.

According to Retter, the FBI, Indiana State Police and Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force assisted his department with the investigation.
