INDIANAPOLIS — A 45-year-old Indianapolis man has a warrant out for his arrest after recently released court documents say he offered to mow a woman's lawn before taking off with her lawnmower and bicycle.
According to court documents, around 4 p.m. on May 18, IMPD officers were called to the 1100 block of W. 34th Street on a report of a burglary.
The victim reportedly told police that she had just gotten home from a hardware store and was getting ready to do yardwork when she was approached by a man, later identified as Darren Kimbrough, wearing a navy shirt and a black durag. Kimbrough, who had been standing across the street at another house, allegedly offered to mow the victim's lawn for $15.
Since the victim could see that Kimbrough had his own lawnmower, the victim agreed to allow Kimbrough to mow her yard so that she could better focus on her other yardwork that needed to get done. Kimbrough allegedly told the victim that he would need some money to gas up the lawnmower, but the victim did not have cash.
The victim reportedly sent gas money to her neighbor, who then paid Kimbrough in cash. Court documents say Kimbrough left to get gas and returned to mow the victim's yard.
According to court documents, the victim told police that she later went inside her house to retrieve something. When she returned outside, she saw that Kimbrough had entered her detached garage behind her house by kicking down the door and was stealing her lawnmower and a Huffy bicycle.
The victim then allegedly yelled at Kimbrough, but he allegedly fled down an alleyway riding the Huffy bike and pushing both his and the victim's lawnmowers.
According to court documents, the victim had her garage door replaced for $75 and posted about the robbery on social media. The victim emailed an IMPD officer a post from social media that showed a photo of a man later identified as Kimbrough pushing two lawnmowers while riding a bike.
The victim identified Kimbrough through a photo array and told police the cost of her stolen lawnmower and bicycle totaled about $775.
Online court records show that as of the publishing of this article, Kimbrough has an active warrant out for his arrest. He is charged with felony burglary and theft by a person with a prior conviction of robbery or burglary.
