IMPD discusses gun security, owner responsibilities after 2 deadly shootings at Indy areas bars

13News talked with police about what bar patrons can do in the event of a shooting at a bar.

INDIANAPOLIS — Security camera footage captured the sound of several shots being fired over the weekend on the east side of Indianapolis.

Different footage shows a man firing rounds inside a packed club in Broad Ripple just over a week prior.

Both of them are eerily similar. Police say at each scene, one person died and five were injured.

"Most of our shootings across the city are a result of some sort of conflict, and we've said it before and we'll continue to say it, people need to find a better way, a non-violent way, to resolve conflict," said IMPD Lt. Shane Foley.

IMPD says 36-year-old Tim Brown was the man who died at Landsharks in Broad Ripple.

His family told 13News he worked there as a security guard.

And according to one of the Landsharks owners, security would routinely wand and pat down people as they came in.

"Each establishment, each business is very unique and what they need to do to keep themselves and their patrons safe is unique to each location. The size of the location, the patronage, the issues they've seen in the past. The time of evening that they're open. These incidents take place well after midnight," said Lt. Foley.

As for the shooting on the east side over the weekend, police say they had two off-duty officers in the parking lot. But according to IMPD, they weren't acting as security for the bar.

13News investigated to find out if there were in fact security measures in place.

The first step was to see who owned the unit. According to records from the city, Flynn & Zinkan Properties II owns the unit. That is registered as a limited liability company, or LLC.

Flynn & Zinkan Properties II confirmed they were the owners of the property, but when asked who their tenant was, they took down information to give to their lawyer.

Next was the 11:11 Bar and Grille, where an old alcohol permit was found taped next to the door from 2023.

The applicant was J & J Promotional Group, another LLC.

13News then found a Facebook page, with the same address listed as 11:11 Bar & Grill, and called the number listed on the page.

No one answered, however 13News received a text message shortly after placing the call. The number never texted back after 13News identified themselves.

As for what you can do if a shooting happens where you're at, IMPD says get of Dodge.

"If that's not possible, we want them to hide and barricade and as a last resort, would be to fight and protect themselves the best they can," said Foley.
