Court docs suggest Lawrence triple homicide stemmed from longstanding feud between families in Honduras

The shooting was reported shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday near East 42nd Street and North Post Road.

LAWRENCE, Ind. — Court documents suggest a triple homicide in Lawrence over the weekend stemmed from a longstanding feud between families in Honduras.

Three men – 38-year-old Daniel Alberto Morales Uribe, 35-year-old Candido Eustaquio Antunez Guillen and 33-year-old Juan Manuel Alfaro Escobar identified by the Marion County Coroner's Office – were killed in the shooting near East 42nd Street and North Post Road around 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18.

Surveillance video obtained by 13News shows the scary moments when gunfire erupted in a busy parking lot.

You can see several people ducking for cover behind cars as the gunshots lasted for nearly 20 seconds.

Witnesses told police that two cars sped away from the scene. One of the cars crashed blocks away at 38th Street and North Post Road.

According to court documents obtained by 13News, Lawrence Police Department detectives discovered three IMPD reports in which Escobar told police he feared for his life due to Guillen, who he said threatened to kill him or have him killed. Escobar allegedly told police Guillen had his whole family killed in Honduras.

Uribe's wife, who is Guillen's sister, allegedly told police after the shooting that Guillen and Escobar were enemies due to past events in Honduras.

Escobar's brother told police there was a history of issues between his family and Guillen's family over land in the country, according to the documents.

Guillen's sister told police she'd been informed Guillen was in the parking lot about to fight Escobar. She went to the lot, and Uribe arrived around the same time with his 3-year-old son in his car. She allegedly told police that Guillen and Escobar pulled out guns and shot at each other. During the incident, Uribe was shot as well.

Escobar's brother told detectives, according to court documents, that Guillen's family had his brother and father killed in Honduras.

But, Escobar's brother allegedly told police that his brother and Guillen had worked things out, even living together for a period before Escobar found Guillen at his home with drugs and guns and called police. After that point, he said, Guillen wanted Escobar dead.

Escobar's brother said Guillen's sister was trying to stop him from fighting when Guillen shot at Escobar, who returned fire. Escobar's brother also told police that another member of Guillen's family shot and ran over his brother before leaving the scene.

Escobar's brother told police he then, along with his brother, shot that member of Guillen's family and chased after him.

That member of Guillen's family was located by the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force and taken into custody Monday, Aug. 19 near 16th Street and Lynhurst Drive.

That man allegedly denied intentionally shooting anyone but said he may have shot someone on the ground and that he fired the gun to get out of the situation.
