The shooting was reported shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday near East 42nd Street and North Post Road.

LAWRENCE, Indiana — The Lawrence Police Department is investigating after three people were killed in a shooting Sunday night.

LPD Deputy Chief Travis Cline told 13News police responded to the intersection of East 42nd Street and North Post Road just before 9 p.m. Aug. 18.

Officers located three men who had been shot. Two were pronounced dead at the scene. The third was taken in critical condition to Eskenazi Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The Marion County Coroner's Office on Monday identified one of the deceased as 38-year-old Daniel Alberto Morales Uribe.

The family of Morales Uribe told 13News that he was a father of five children.

“He was a very helpful person, but now that he is dead, there are five kids that are left alone,” said his nephew, who helped translate for his grandmother. “He was very caring and loving.”

Surveillance video obtained by 13News shows the scary moments when gunfire erupted in the busy parking lot.

You can see several people ducking for cover behind cars as the gunshots lasted for nearly 20 seconds.

Witnesses told police that two cars also sped away from the scene. One of them crashed blocks away at 38th and Post Road.

“Officers responded down there. They were told by witnesses that a couple males fled on foot from that vehicle,” Cline said. “It breaks out hearts. We are sorry for their loss, and our investigators are going to work diligently to solve this case.”
