INDIANAPOLIS — Charges have been filed against two brothers from Indianapolis after the they allegedly shot at one another, injuring their family members in the process.

Angel Rosales-Ramirez, 23, has a warrant out for his arrest stemming from five felony charges, including burglary with a deadly weapon, three counts of battery with a deadly weapon and one count of pointing a firearm at another. His brother Ivan Rosales-Ramirez is charged with one felony count of pointing a firearm.

According to recently released court documents, around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, IMPD officers responded to a residence on Division Street on Indy's southwest side on a report of a person shot. When officers arrived, they found three people with gunshot wounds.

The victims reportedly told police the people who shot them were family members. Court documents say district officers informed the detective assigned to the case that the suspects were brothers and identified them as Angel Rosales-Ramirez and Ivan Rosales-Ramirez.

Court documents say police visited Ivan's residence in the 800 block of Warren Avenue, which is one block east of the scene of the shooting, but did not find Ivan. Instead, four residents of the house were briefly detained by police and all identified as family members to Angel and Ivan. The family members told police they last saw Angel and Ivan the previous night around 7 p.m., but did not know where they went.

Police then interviewed a woman who was inside the house on Division Street at the time of the shooting. The woman reportedly told police that she was asleep with her boyfriend when she heard screaming and shooting. She then saw her mom had been shot in the stomach and heard from others that the shooter was her cousin.

The woman told police that Angel and Ivan shot her mother, brother and little sister during the shootout. Court documents say the woman told police Angel and Ivan had ongoing problems with her brother.

Further interviews conducted by police corroborated stories that Angel and Ivan had ongoing problems with one of the shooting victims. One witness told police that they had gotten out of a white van and saw Ivan and an individual known only as "Chiquis" point guns at their brother. When the brother ran inside the house, he was chased by Angel, who pushed his way inside and began firing shots.

The detective assigned to the case then visited the shooting victim that was targeted by Angel and Ivan at Eskenazi Hospital. The victim had been shot in the left wrist but was otherwise in stable condition.

Court documents say the victim told police he had just gotten to the Division Street residence and was getting ready to go to bed when Angel and Ivan forced their way into the home and began shooting. The victim allegedly told police that he didn't know why Angel and Ivan were shooting and that they targeted his mother first. The victim told police that he jumped in front of his mother which resulted in him being shot in the wrist.

During an investigation of the crime scene, officers found shell casings, bullet holes, a Swiss-Army knife with a bloody blade and a BB gun.

The shooting victim's mother allegedly told police that she woke up to gunshots and saw her kids running inside. She told Angel, who she identified as her nephew in court documents, to calm down, but Angel fired three shots. The mother reportedly told police that the first shot missed her, but the second shot struck her in the chest, went through her and struck her daughter in the stomach.

The mother was able to identify the shooter as Angel in a police lineup.

As of the publishing of this article, Angel currently has a warrant out for his arrest. Ivan's initial court hearing is scheduled for July 25 at 10 a.m.
