31-year-old man killed in shooting on Indy's east side; 'person of interest' detained

The incident happened shortly after 6 a.m. Saturday in the 3800 block of East Washington Street, near North Sherman Drive.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating a deadly shooting that happened Saturday morning on the city's east side.

Officers responded to multiple calls of shots fired in the 3800 block of East Washington Street, near North Sherman Drive, shortly after 6 a.m. Sept. 14.

Police arrived and found a man with gunshot wounds in an alleyway behind the AutoZone. Medics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

On Sept. 16, the Marion County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 31-year-old Joshua Daniel Davis.

IMPD confirmed officers detained a "person of interest." Police also said they found multiple guns at the scene.

"This violence we've seen in the last 12 hours, 24 hours is outrageous for us to see," IMPD Officer Drew Brown said. "For our community members and our neighbors to look around and see these types of things happening, for our officers and detectives who are working hard responding to these types of things, it can be heartbreaking."

Anyone with additional information on the incident is asked to contact IMPD Det. Christopher Edwards at 317-327-3475 or call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.

This comes after eight people were wounded in seven shootings across Indianapolis Friday night.
