BUTTER is back and bigger than ever in Indianapolis

The BUTTER Fine Art Fair is back in 2024 with 60 exhibiting artists, live music, dance performances and food trucks.

INDIANAPOLIS — BUTTER is back for 2024, showcasing 60 Black artists from Indianapolis and around the world for four days of culture and fun.

BUTTER runs from Aug. 29 thru Sept. 1 at The Stutz on Capitol Avenue. Tickets start at $40, and kids get in for free.

There will be performances every day of the fair starting Thursday night, all hosted by Rusty Redenbacher.

BUTTER was created by GANGGANG, with the first event taking place in 2021. BUTTER is an equitable fine art fair. The goal is to sell 100% of the art, with 100% of the profits going to the artists who created it.

“We are delighted that the Indianapolis community and broader region has wrapped its arms around BUTTER, making the fine art fair the experience of the season for its role as a driver of economic growth and justice,” said Malina Simone Bacon, co-founder of GANGGANG and BUTTER Fine Art Fair. “This is a big year for GANGGANG and for BUTTER to welcome new artists, cities, partners, and strategies for sustaining both organizations.”

What's new this year?

A new outdoor performance stage will come to 10th Street this year. Bands include the Pork & Beans Brass Band, FOXD’LEGND and Brandon Lott

BUTTER is bringing artist talks to Conversation Cove. The bright pink mainstay of the fair will now feature many of the artists and curators helping make BUTTER happen. Every hour, there will be Q+A sessions where you can ask about their process and inspiration.

BUTTER will also feature Grapevine. The Black-owned first Friday event will be featured outside the main Exhibition Hall. Grapevine features a curated selection of the city's top retail and food truck brands.

“We're thrilled to bring the energy of Grapevine to the city’s premier fine art fair,” said Nigel Long, GANGGANG executive and creator of Grapevine. “While we're usually at Cleo’s Bodega every First Friday from May to October, we are excited to make exceptions for exciting and impactful experiences like BUTTER.”

This year will also feature The Kids' Zone in partnership with The Children's Museum of Indianapolis. It is meant to encourage creativity and play. There will be a Lego printing station on and a collaborative museum project with the Children's Museum, both on Friday morning. There will also be a ball pit and bumper cars sponsored by Rook.
