Taylor Swift's Eras Tour in Indianapolis | What to know about road closures, safety plan, rideshare services

According to Visit Indy, 200,000 people are expected in Indianapolis during the weekend.

INDIANAPOLIS — Global superstar Taylor Swift is bringing The Eras Tour to Indianapolis for the final stop in the United States.

She will perform three shows at Lucas Oil Stadium Nov. 1-3.

There are lots of Taylor Swift-themed events planned for the days leading up to the concerts and when Swift is in town.

Here's what you need to know about the concerts, downtown Indianapolis' safety plan, road closures, rideshare services, activations around the city and more.

Interesting facts, statistics

  • According to Visit Indy, 200,000 people are expected in Indianapolis during the weekend.
  • 81% of tickets were sold to people who don't live in Indiana.
  • 60,000+ people are expected in Lucas Oil Stadium each night.
  • 40,000 more people who don’t have tickets are expected to be downtown to enjoy the festivities.
  • The economic impact of The Eras Tour in Indianapolis is anticipated to be a nine-figure number.  
  • Hotels are virtually sold out, commanding three times the average daily rate as this time last year.
  • Short-term rental bookings are up 207% compared to last year during the same weekend, with a 7,000% surge in searches for Airbnb rentals year-over-year for the concert weekend. 
  • This will be Taylor Swift's ninth time performing in Indianapolis.
  • Music begins at 7 p.m. each evening. The show is expected to end around 11 p.m. Taylor Swift will go on after her opener, Gracie Abrams.
  • The decal of Taylor Swift on the JW Marriott is 300 feet tall. 
  • Indianapolis buildings are asked to light up in pink or purple.

Ticket info and bag policy

All tickets are mobile tickets. Tickets, which are currently frozen, are in people’s mobile wallets. Then, 72 hours before show, those tickets will be able to be transferred.

A clear bag policy is being enforced for the concerts. It's virtually identical to NFL rules. Clear backpacks are not allowed.

Merchandise

Fans can buy merchandise at the Indiana Convention Center in Exhibit Hall K: 

  • Wednesday, Oct. 30: 1030 a.m.-8 p.m.
  • Thursday, Oct. 31: 10 a.m.-8 p.m.
  • Friday, Nov. 1: Noon-8 p.m.
  • Saturday, Nov. 2: Noon-8 p.m.
  • Sunday, Nov. 3: Only sales will be inside Lucas Oil Stadium

Safety plan for downtown Indianapolis

More than 100 IMPD officers and Indiana State Police troopers will be in downtown Indianapolis throughout the weekend.

There will be officers on foot, bicycles, horses, ATVs and vehicles.

Traffic information

The following roads will be closed Nov. 1-4 during the posted hours:

  • South Street between Capitol Avenue and Missouri Street: 10 a.m. – 1 a.m.
  • Monument Circle all four spokes closed: 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.
  • South Street between Pennsylvania and Delaware streets: 10 p.m. – 1 a.m.
  • Washington Street between Illinois Street and Capitol Avenue: 11 p.m. – 1 a.m.
  • Maryland Street between West Street and Capitol Avenue: 11 p.m. – 1 a.m.
  • Missouri Street between Washington and Maryland streets: No S/B. 11 p.m. – 1 a.m.
  • Capitol Avenue from Washington to South streets: 11 p.m. – 1 a.m.
  • Georgia Street between Illinois Street and Capitol Avenue: No W/B. 11 p.m. – 1 a.m.
  • South Street between Capitol Avenue and Pennsylvania Street: 11 p.m. – 1 a.m.
  • Kentucky Avenue from South to Morris streets: No N/B or E/B 11 p.m. – 1 a.m.
  • McCarty Street between West and Missouri streets: 11 p.m. - 1 a.m.
  • McCarty Street and Capitol Avenue: No E/B or W/B 11 p.m. - 1 a.m.
  • McCarty Street and Illinois Street: No N/B 11 p.m. - 1 a.m.

The following interstate exits will be closed Nov. 1-4 during the posted hours: : 

  • I-70 E/B at West Street exit: 11 p.m. - 1 a.m.
  • I-70 W/B at West Street exit: 11 p.m. - 1 a.m.
  • I-70 E/B at Illinois Street/Meridian Street exit: 11 p.m. - 1 a.m.
  • I-70 W/B at Meridian Street exit: 11 p.m. - 1 a.m. 

The following traffic diversions will be implemented Nov. 1-4 during the posted hours: 

  •  No southbound traffic on Missouri Street between Washington and Maryland streets: 11 p.m. - 1 a.m.
  • Southbound West Street at South Street will be diverted to Kentucky Avenue: 11 p.m. - 1 a.m.

Rideshare services, drop-off locations

Allow for plenty of time to reach your destination, whether driving, carpooling, or using ridesharing services and IndyGo.

Demand for rideshares are expected to exceed capacity. Expect surge charges and long waits.

  • Rideshare zones:
    • South Street between Missouri and West streets (between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m.)
    • Lilly Lot at Delaware and South streets (between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m.)
  • Parent pickup zone:
    • Lilly Lot at Delaware and South streets (10 p.m. and 1 a.m.)
  • Drop-off zone:
    • McCarty Street, south of Lucas Oil Stadium

    • 30% increase inbound capacity (flights added, anticipated increase in seat capacity on flights)
    • 30-foot tall photo of Taylor Swift is up inside the Col. H. Weir Cook Terminal Civic Plaza.
  • Food trucks
    • SPARK on the Circle (Monument Circle): Friday, Saturday and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m.
    • Hudnut Commons on Maryland Street: Friday, Saturday and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m.
  • NDY sculptures will be at the following locations:

  • There are 32 temporary street signs across downtown Indianapolis, including Cruel Summer Court, Fortnight Drive, Lover Lane and more.

Volunteers

Approximately 100 students from Butler University and IU Indy will volunteer as street-level ambassadors. They will be wearing pink Indy T-shirts, hoodies and beanies.
