INDIANAPOLIS — Smoke is the word today, and it will be around all day. The heavy smoke from the Canadian wildfires has been permeating the atmosphere in Indiana, and that will continue today.
In fact, the day ahead will be one where the air quality index will be in the very unhealthy category. It will also be a Knozone Action Day today in Indianapolis. Here is what you need to know:
During a Knozone Air Quality Action Day, the region’s air quality may become unhealthy for individuals who are sensitive to air pollutants, including:
- Children
- Senior citizens
- People with breathing-related illnesses, such as asthma
- Those who are active outdoors
The Indianapolis Office of Sustainability encourages sensitive groups to reduce prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors on Knozone Air Quality Action Days.
Look for a high in the 80s today, but with a chance for rain and thunderstorms late this afternoon, tonight and tomorrow.
With a high of 90 degrees, Thursday provides us with a slight risk for severe weather. Some of those strong storms could have heavy rain, lightning, hail and some isolated tornadoes.
Friday may see a thunderstorm and highs around 90 degrees, but even though we will just be in the 80s Saturday and Sunday, a very active pattern stays with us, including a chance for thunderstorms.
