INDIANAPOLIS — We finally have a severe-clear day, with only a stray shower possible in the afternoon across the southern tier of the state. It will be noticeably more humid, though, with dew points approaching the 70-degree mark. That would put us in the "miserable" category on the muggy meter. High temperatures reach the upper 80s.
It stays miserably muggy on Thursday as air temperatures approach 90 degrees, with heat indices of 95-100 in the early afternoon.
A cold front will eventually arrive and prompt scattered thunderstorms in the late morning into the afternoon hours. The Storm Prediction Center has already placed the Indianapolis metro and eastern parts of the state under a Level 2 of 5 for the risk of scattered strong to severe storms, with damaging wind gusts as the primary threat.
The severe threat comes to an end after 5 p.m. with storms pushing south of the area. We'll quickly start to feel the relief from the high humidity as drier air returns to the area.
Less humid air and sunshine returns for Friday with below-average high temperatures near 80 degrees. The quieter setup looks to bring more pleasant weather for the weekend as well, with a mix of sun and clouds on Saturday and Sunday, and highs in the low-to-mid-80s.
