INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis hit 90 degrees yesterday, which marks the 10th 90°+ day so far this year. On average, the city sees around 20 90°+ days a year. Last year, we had 18 days at or above 90° with the record being set at 58 from 1983.
Yesterday's high of 90 kicked off a stretch of 90s for the next several days. We're hot and humid with partly to mostly sunny skies today. Highs again approach 90 with heat indices of 95-100. This is not typical for this time of year. The average high is now trending downward as we have less daylight and a lower sun angle in the sky. The normal high is around 84.
We have another dry and hot day to kick off the work week with highs in the low 90s under a mostly sunny sky. We get a brief break from the high humidity, but it returns quickly on Tuesday with showers and storms developing in the afternoon.
Highs peak near 93 with heat indices of 100-105. We're back in the low 90s Wednesday and Thursday before a frontal boundary brings our next best chance of rain along Thursday night.
This will also bring a slight break in the high heat, but it'll still be rather warm for this time of year with highs in the upper 80s for Friday into next weekend.
