INDIANAPOLIS — It'll be a faster track today given the cloudy conditions we've had so far today.
A cold front is moving through the state which has prompted the cloud cover. As it exits south and east by lunch time, the sky will clear back out and bring in more sunshine. The more the sun is out, the hotter the temperature and a more slick track will work against drivers reaching peak speeds.
Also a strong northwest wind will have an impact today. Gusts up to 25 mph at times through the afternoon will work against drivers coming up the back straight but could help along the front stretch into Turn 1.
This northwest wind is also bringing in lower humidity which is beneficial for engines. They'll create more horsepower in a drier air mass compared to yesterday's high humidity and moisture content to the air.
Dew points will drop from the upper 60s this morning into the upper 50s and into the "comfort zone" on the Muggy Meter this afternoon.
