INDIANAPOLIS — A powerful winter storm will bring heavy rain, the potential for 50-60 mph wind gusts, snow and dangerous cold. We will help you stay weather aware over the next several days.
The heavy rain arrives overnight. We are forecasting heavy rain from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.
1-2 inches of rain is possible.
Winds will start gusting during the afternoon hours and those potentially damaging wind gusts will last through early Saturday.
The rain will change to snow showers Friday evening.
The bursts of steady snow may quickly accumulate to a couple of inches. As temperatures drop Friday evening and the snow falls, there will be some slick roads.
Dangerous cold arrives this weekend. Wind chills drop below zero Saturday night and forecast highs Sunday through Tuesday are only 10-15 degrees.
Now is the time to prepare for the storm and the cold. Here are a few tips: Bring in any leftover holiday decorations, clear leaves from storm drain and gutters, allow extra travel time due to wet roads and slick roads, keep garage doors closed during the cold weather, use space heaters safely and remember your pets will need extra attention too.
