INDIANAPOLIS — TGIF, friends! Are you ready for some football?!?! It's a big football weekend in the state of Indiana, and we're helping you plan for what to expect.

Operation Football Friday Night

We're enjoying a fantastic autumn afternoon today with sunshine, some high clouds and temperatures reaching the 60s for highs. We've reached the Sectional Championships portion of Operation Football tonight, and the weather is ideal for November football.

Expect kick-off temperatures in the 50s but dropping quickly as the games progress. Under a clear sky and light wind, you'll need to be dressed for 40s during much of the second-half of games tonight. Perfect hot chocolate and football weather. Good luck to your team!

College football Saturday

All eyes will be on Bloomington come Saturday afternoon with the big Michigan-IU game kicking off at 3:30 p.m. Latest guidance hasn't done much to change our forecast for tailgating and game conditions in south-central Indiana. There will be sunshine early in the day that gives way to a thickening cloud deck into Saturday afternoon.

For now, we're forecasting dry conditions during tailgating for Hoosier fans and for kick-off. It's possible by the end of the game for some sprinkles and/or showers to arrive from the west.

On the opposite side of the state, Notre Dame plays Florida State later in the day with a 7:30 p.m. kick-off on WTHR. Irish fans should dress for lower 50s and near 10 mph wind. Clouds have more bark than bite, but sprinkles or light showers are in play by the end of the game.

Colts tailgating Sunday

But hands-down the most impacted football event in the state this weekend will be tailgating for the Colts game and walking into Lucas Oil Stadium Sunday.

Rain becomes widespread Saturday night into predawn Sunday with rumbles of thunder possible, too. There will be areas of heavy rain, and rainfall totals with this latest front will exceed 1" in some places by the time it ends early Sunday afternoon.

Before that happens, you better have a tent as part of your tailgate preps Sunday morning with showers lingering into midday. Temperatures will be in the 60s, and there should be a brightening of the sky by the time you head out of Lucas Oil Sunday afternoon.

Have fun, and GO COLTS!
