INDIANAPOLIS — Skies are clearing, and it will be a cold night with temperatures in the 20s early Friday morning. Grab that heavy coat as forecast highs are in the upper 30s on Friday afternoon with mainly cloudy skies.
We are tracking our next winter weather system, and it brings the potential for an inch or so of snow early Saturday morning. A mix of rain and snow arrives Friday night, and we are expecting that mix to change to bursts of steady snow between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. Saturday. Accumulations will be minor with an inch or so in the forecast.
Most of that will melt Saturday afternoon ahead of another wave of mixed rain and snow showers later Saturday night into Sunday. We are not expecting accumulations with this second wave.
A stronger storm system is in the forecast for early next week. The timeline is late Monday night through Wednesday. We are forecasting some strong winds, rain and snow. The latest analysis has central Indiana on the warm side with more rain than snow. Stay tuned for updates early next week. If there is a change in the track of the storm, there will be a change in type of precipitation.
