Indianapolis set a new snowfall record for the day with over 3 inches. Much of central Indiana picked up 1 to 4 inches. It is melting very quickly.

INDIANA, USA — The great snow melt of fall 2024 has begun, and for some has already finished, as heavy snow fell on Thursday with multiple inches accumulating across Indiana. Many Hoosiers picked up 1 to 4 inches across the state, especially in central and northern Indiana.

Highlight: This is our earliest 3"+ of snow since 1997

We have the official snowfall reports from around the state (below).

We had two rounds of snow. Scattered morning showers brought about an inch to a dusting across central Indiana. Another few inches fell in a heavier burst of snow through the afternoon and evening.

Now most of the snow is gone, but as roads stay wet, there may be slick spots on your commute throughout Friday.

This is the earliest 3"+ snowfall of the season since 1997. We had a couple inches in early November in 2022, but not 3".

The previous record for Nov. 21 was 1.3" back in 2015.

We are off to a strong start for snow so far for the 2024-25 snow season!
