INDIANA, USA — Our first snow chance is possible on Thursday across Indiana, but it should be light. Clouds will lower and stiff north winds 20-35 MPH will kick up moisture from the Great Lakes, bringing a chance for a mix of snow showers and rain showers for all Hoosiers.

This is not expected to be a snowstorm. We are not expecting constant snow, but rather times of snow showers, times of rain showers, and times of just clouds. At times we may even get some graupel, which looks like Dippin' Dots.
It will also be windy. 40 MPH wind gusts will blow over Lake Michigan, possibly making waves 20+ feet high near the Indiana Dunes. The winds will be closer to 20-35 MPH across central Indiana. Expect some wind chills in the 20s and 30s.
Snow chances across Indiana
- Blue Zone: More snow showers than rain showers on Thursday (all other days look mainly just rainy)
- Green Zone: More rain showers than snow showers, but some snowflakes are still possible
The warmer waters of Lake Michigan may keep temperatures warmer for parts of northern Indiana at times, increasing the rain chance.
Everything looks to be on the lighter side. This is not a rain storm or a snow storms. Just scattered showers are expected. There will be lots of dry times we think too.
Will it stick?
This is the big question we keep getting. It's too early to say anything for sure, but we do have some thoughts. Expect more updates the next few days.
Because we are getting a mix of rain and snow showers, it may be tough to accumulate anything. And some of us may not get any snow showers at all.
Road and ground temperatures are in the 50s. It would take a heavier burst of snow to temporarily get the flakes to stick.
There may be some minor accumulations at times on parked vehicles, mailboxes, rooftops, and overpasses/bridges if a snow burst comes, or IF you even get any snow.
Expect a gray wintery day on Thursday
This cold core low will be spinning around low clouds with scattered rain showers and snow showers. Every Hoosier will get something a little different that day.
