What to watch for:
- Hit-or-miss showers, not everyone gets rain!
- Rain chance 11 AM to 5 PM
- Dry weather with some lingering clouds & sun this evening
This round of rain was sparked by a cold front in the central Plains. It is losing steam over time, breaking apart as it pushes southeast toward Indiana. Thunderstorms will be gradually turning into spotty showers.
Rain zones afternoon
The rain will be heaviest and more concentrated to the northwest. As the rain complex pushes south and east toward Indianapolis, it will be falling apart. Rain zone chances decrease as you push south and east.
If you are not in a green zone, your chance of rain is extremely low.
Earlier at 5 AM Friday
This is what the storm complex looked like before sunrise. There were even some severe thunderstorm warnings at times in Iowa. It was a pretty hefty cluster of rain and storms.
Higher pressure to the southeast will be working to rip the storms apart.
Forecast 1 p.m. Friday
The complex should be a lot weaker by lunch on Friday. Rain will be crossing into Indiana, weakening over time. Still some rain is likely around Lafayette and Terre Haute.
Forecast 3 p.m. Friday
Just leftover showers are expected around 3 PM. They will likely be hit-or-miss across central Indiana. They won't last much longer after 3 p.m. Most of the showers are expected to be dried up around 5 p.m.
Any of this rain should be light.
Rest of the evening
By 5 p.m., most of the rain chances should be done. There may still be some lingering clouds. Otherwise expect a quiet evening with comfortable temperatures. Temperatures should drop into the 60s by 9 p.m.
We are expecting some of the nicest weather of the football season so far for this Friday night. It will get a little cool by the end of the games.
A few fields northwest of Indianapolis may be a little wet, but expect most fields to be dry and fine for football.
Looking ahead
Enjoy warm, mostly sunny weather through the weekend. Another front hits Sunday midday, dropping us back to the 60s to start next week.
As that front passes over Indiana, there is a stray shower chance possible, generally east of Indianapolis.
