INDIANA, USA — Get ready for a blast of early fall-like weather today and this weekend! High temperatures are dropping to the 70s. Morning low temperatures could fall down to the 40s and 50s across Indiana. This is more typical of late September.

If you miss the summer heat, no worries. It will come back next week.

Temperatures next few days (morning lows to afternoon highs)

  • Friday: 60s to 70s
  • Saturday: 50s to 70s
  • Sunday: 40s/50s to 70s
  • Monday: 50s to 70s

The cold front arrived at the Illinois-Indiana state line early Friday morning. It will gradually push east across the state the rest of the day. It has produced some extra clouds, but we will stay dry as the clouds are not thick enough to produce rain.

As the front pushes through, expect northwest winds to accelerate from around 5 mph to 15 mph later this afternoon. This will push the humidity out of Indiana and keep temperatures below average for about four to five days.

The high humidity will be pushed south to the other side of the Appalachians. This is a pretty impressive cold front for the eastern United States for this time of year.

The green color (pictured below) shows areas with dew points above 60 degrees. Once you reach the 60s for the dew point, that's when you start to notice the humidity. Indiana will be clear of the mugginess for a couple days. It will feel more like fall!

Chilly morning temperatures

With lower humidity, the temperatures at night will be able to drop more. Sunday will likely be the coldest start in the days ahead.

Much of Indiana will start Sunday morning in the 50s. However, a few places northwest of Indianapolis may start in the 40s. We haven't had a morning like this since early June!

Plus, with the lower humidity, it will just feel colder regardless of the temperature before the sun gets high in the sky. Have the jacket ready for Sunday brunch or other events.

Looking ahead

This colder air will not last long. Expect to rebound next week with lots of 80s. The humidity will gradually build back over Indiana, too.
