INDIANAPOLIS — A low pressure system moves in this evening and could block the view of the Perseid meteor shower across central Indiana tonight.
TODAY: Clouds increase this afternoon and this incoming storm system could spark stray showers, mainly after 5 p.m. Temperatures remain below average with highs near 80 degrees.
Will central Indiana have a good view of the Perseid meteor shower tonight?
While shower chances exit around midnight, mainly cloudy skies linger through the overnight hours. This mid to high clouds will likely impact the ability to see the peak amount of meteors locally. Nonetheless, a few breaks in the cloud deck are possible so if you are planning on checking out the Perseids, make sure to check out the northeast sky with the most meteors possible just before dawn.
What about the northern lights?
We also had a few pictures of the Aurora Borealis sent in overnight last night.
The Space Weather Prediction Center reported strong geomagnetic storm conditions were observed overnight due to a coronal mass ejection passing by Earth. It is not in the forecast that this will occur again overnight so the chances of seeing the northern lights again tonight are low.
The forecast for the rest of the week...
We're back in the low to mid 80s Tuesday and Wednesday under a partly cloudy sky as highs rebound to more seasonal levels in the low to mid 80s.
The pattern then becomes more unsettled with stray storms possible Thursday through the start of next weekend.
