Who has the best chance for storms?

Rain zones will move over time throughout Thursday Independence Day. Generally our highest rain chances will start in the SW corner of the state and push to the SE corner.

(Note: These storm zones do not guarantee you will get rain, but highlight the areas that have the best shot of some rainfall at times during the time window.)

Thursday morning will bring some scattered rain chances. The best chance for rain will be after 8 a.m. and southwest of Indianapolis.

Later into the afternoon, the scattered showers will push out and pop-up thunderstorms will be possible. Much of Indiana has this chance. There may be a slight tilt toward eastern Indiana for the highest rain chances.

Later in the evening, especially after 7 p.m., the majority of rain chances will start to exit Indiana. Eastern Indiana may still have a few showers and storms between 6-9 p.m., but then drier conditions are likely the rest of the night.

How bad will the storms be?

Most of the rain should be just showers and downpours at times. Widespread severe weather is not expected. Could one of the cells turn severe with gusty winds, for sure. The highest chance for a couple severe storms will be in southern Indiana.
