INDIANAPOLIS — "I love it when a plan comes together." - Colonel John "Hannibal" Smith from the A-Team.
Indeed, sometimes a plan - or forecast, if you will - comes together. I'd like to tip my hat to my colleagues on the Live Doppler 13 Weather staff for doing a fine job forecasting the timing, impacts and amounts of snow. The metro area was challenging due to an expected, but exact timing unknown, transition to rain.
Below is the final forecast map issued Saturday at 4 p.m. (that didn't deviate much from the 11 p.m. map Friday) and the snow reports overlaid. As with any snow event, there are some that get more/less than forecast. But overall, the expected outcome verified quite well.
Snow continues across central Indiana tonight, and it's been aided by some lake effect, too, as a stiff northerly wind blows off of Lake Michigan. That wind vector points lake-induced snow showers into the metro area and — combined with sub-freezing temperatures — produces some slick roads heading into the Monday morning commute.
There's a growing list of school delays, closures and schools going to virtual learning days already, undoubtedly this list will grow overnight. Use caution if traveling, and expect elevated surfaces to ice up first.
