INDIANAPOLIS — Another pleasantly mild day in progress in central Indiana and the Great Lakes. The sky today is a mix of mid/high level clouds and sunshine. So not as blue as the past couple of days, but the air remains pleasant with the wind gradually shifting to more easterly. Pleasantly warmer highs in the mid/upper 70s mark the beginning of gradual warming trend.
The biggest complaint today is likely the very high amounts of ragweed that are hitting pollen sufferers hard. Those values remain very high through this week until Friday when increasing showers temporarily knock it down to "moderate" levels.
After sunset this evening, temperatures drop back down to the lower/mid 50s for Wednesday morning. Tomorrow will be warmer as the wind shifts to the southwest and highs peak in the mid-80s. Thursday remains the warmest day this week with highs nearing 90° in advance of an even stronger cold front.
Expect showers to become likely near/east of that front on Friday...with rumbles of thunder possible from increasing lift provided by a vigorous upper level diving into the Great Lakes. Temperatures peak around midday/early afternoon Friday before dropping into the 60s with stiffening northerly wind by kick-off of Operation Football games Friday evening.
That upper level delivers the coolest air of the season this weekend with highs in the upper 60s to near 70°. A rather brisk wind on Saturday, and varying amounts of low-level clouds, make it feel cooler too. The clouds and wind diminish Saturday night to allow for lows area-wide to drop into the 40s and there's a chance of some upper 30s in northeastern Indiana by Sunday morning.
Plan for seasonably chilly conditions if you're tailgating early Sunday morning for the Colts season opener. Plenty of sunshine and a mild, but below average, afternoon near 70°.
